Tomorrow starts NaBloPoMo

October 31, 2007

I decided that this year I am joining National Blog Posting Month, aka NaBloPoMo, which means post about some thing every single day.

It is also National Adoption Awareness Month, so expect some posts about adoption.

And Widget turns 3 in 3 weeks from today!!

I shall try not to bore with too much inanity or insanity in my attempts at posting every day :P

Ash Wednesday

February 22, 2007

I was going to go to church last night but somehow from the morning when I got up and remembered it was Ash Wednesday to last night at about 8 when I remembered again, it had slipped my mind.

I suppose having a doctor’s appointment for Widget, who has some unidentifiable rash (at least it wasn’t chicken pox like I was beginning to think) and a therapy appointment along with 3 phone calls from our realtor- can we have a showing?  How about 3:30?  Oh, wait the buyers would want to close in two weeks and that’ll never happen with a short sale, so nevermind, probably account for that slip-up.

As for my Lenten intentions, I’m going to try to spend at least a few minutes every day in order to do some reflecting on my spiritual life.  I also wrote my testimony because I would like to join our church this spring (and I’m hoping T will commit to writing his- he says he’s ready but he’s an excellent procrastinator- heh heh, that’s pot calling the kettle black).  I may need to some editing to my testimony as it is rather long.  I tend to be kind of rambly at times ;)

I also need to contact the woman who sets up the life groups at our church.  The one we were going to join fizzled because we lost two families to other things and then I never heard anything from the group that was looking to add.  We need to get involved in something.  Alpha was great last year but it was such a huge commitment and the child care thing got too complicated, that we decided not to participate again.  And I’m struggling with my Tuesday morning women’s group.  I’ve missed almost all of the meetings since Christmas- I think I made it twice and I won’t make it next week as T has an appointment with an “Ears, Nose, Throat” specialist and I am going with him.  I don’t quite know what to do because I’m not feeling very connected to the women in my group, even though they are very nice, and that makes it hard for me to get going when I’m not motivated or when Widget is making it difficult to get out the door.

Oh, and soon I will be moving this blog again. I got in on a deal for site hosting, paying only $1 plus domain registration.  So once I sort out getting my site set up and my blog transferred, I’ll post the new link here.  This way I’ll be able to use some different templates, add-ins that the free blog here at wordpress doesn’t allow.  I’m getting in the thick of it with web site administration, set-up, etc.  Much techno-geek stuff to figure out.

Just what I need

February 18, 2007

A new forum!

As if I need another site to visit on the internet. Heh heh.

Blame Jenna cause she posted the link on her blog. This time, though, it doesn’t have anything to do with adoption or infertility (my current forum memberships).

It is called Moms of Grace and is geared towards Christian moms. I am looking forward to getting a chance to roam around there and it will be a very nice change to not have adoption/infertility be the primary focus.

I’ve been tagged

November 19, 2006

Nicole tagged me. I am supposed to write weird stuff about myself. I’m not sure they are very weird but well, here goes:

1. As a kid, I used to read the phone book when I was bored. Even now, if I have the phone book out (which I rarely do cause I use the internet to search for everything), I will look up my listing and then read all the other people with the same last name- the list was much shorter before I was married.

2. I got engaged in our band director’s front yard during a camp out after my senior year (T had graduated the year before but we met because we had mutual friends and we were all in band together). He and his wife were the master/mistress of ceremonies at our wedding. We had an itinerary for the wedding- he timed the rehearsal and then allocated specific times for the wedding itself. I have a copy of the itinerary in our wedding journal.

3. Homemade chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorite things to eat for breakfast. I figure they are no worse than some of the sugar cereal crap out there.

4. I read 5,000 pages in 5th grade for a reading contest (no that didn’t include the phone book). Over 10 times more than any other kid read. The internet has reduced the number of pages I read now. Bad Internet. Bad Blog. Bad Forums. Bad Erin ;)

5. When I was in 7th grade, I was part of a drug awareness play called “Pinocchio, Don’t Smoke that Cigarette”- we went to the elementary schools to “perform”. I played the Spine. My big line was “You’ll never grow big or grow tall. In fact, you may never grow up at all”. Very funny, ha ha, considering that I was about 4′7″ at the time. And quite sad that I remember the line.

6. I can remember phone numbers very easily. I only have to dial them maybe once or twice and I generally don’t need to write them down.

7. When I read books written by the same author, I prefer to read them in publishing order and I have to read them all. I will not skip ahead if they are a series. And generally, a year or more has to go by before I can reread them because I remember the plot too well.

8. I do not like paper to have any wrinkles. If a page wrinkles, I either get a new sheet or I tear the page out of the notebook, even if it means starting over on what I’m writing.

9. At 29, I still cannot cut in a straight line, even with a guide line.

10. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is my absolute favorite movie. Most people do not expect me to say that when I’m asked.

I’m not sure who to tag, so if you want to do it, post a comment to let me know you did.

Holiday Cooking Blogger Style

October 2, 2006

holidaycooking.jpg

Overwhelmed is hosting a recipe exchange for holiday recipes.  Normally I’m not big on participating in blogging “tours” but I like holiday cooking and I have to share my two favorites :)

The first is an appetizer:

Olive Cheese Snacks

1 5 oz. jar of cheese spread (I use either Kraft bacon cheddar or olde english)

4T butter

dash Worcestershire

dash tobasco

3/4 c flour

small jar stuffed green olives (about 30)
Blend butter and cheese until fluffy.  Mix in flour, Worcestershire and tobasco sauces.  Roll dough around olives (approx. 1 tsp per olive).

Bake 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes.

The second is for chocolate cookies with chocolate frosting

Chocolate Cookies

1/2 c shortening

1 c sugar

1 egg

2 tsp baking powder

2 sq. unsweetened baker’s chocolate

1/2 c milk

1 1/2 c flour

1/2 nuts (if desired)

Drop by teaspoonful.  350 degrees for 10 minutes.  Frost when cool

Frosting

2 sq unsweetened baker’s chocolate

1T butter

1/4 c brown sugar

1/4 c water

Cook until chocolate is dissolved and mixture is thick.  Cool.  Add confectioner’s sugar until right consistency to spread.

Nicole is coming to GR at the beginning of November and hopefully we can catch up. If we are lucky, maybe Jana too if she is here and not in Minneapolis or Chicago.

It’s about time

August 22, 2006

that PH updated his blog.  I had nearly given up hope!  I wanted to comment but then I thought I don’t know if I should, considering the “break” and all.  So I’ll post my comment here :P

If you’re reading, PH, I still think you should keep posting to it.  I also think you will probably get a better response from the “general public” than you got from your colleagues/employees

And you’re what? Going on vacation again? Heh heh.  Have fun ;)

Privacy

August 8, 2006

I have learned while perusing the “what’s new” about WordPress, that I can now make my blog private -viewable only by those you chose, although they have to be a member (I think you are limited on number of readers).

While walking tonight, I debated doing this.

But then I thought people don’t have to read/comeback if they don’t want to. This isn’t a popularity contest…

So I jumped ship

July 26, 2006

to WordPress. I do like the category option- I shall gradually categorize my posts. Finding a template I like has been slightly challenging!
